Carol Hernandez - Fine Artist
Carol Hernandez is an animal lover who also is a fine artist. Her paintings reach her viewers on many levels. Evocative, her Natural Symbolist style creates an iconic image: every horse, your horse, a wish for a horse. The energetic vibrations of her colors awaken feelings: a memory, a dream.
Although Hernandez, who paints in both oil and acrylic, received a formal art education, graduating with honors, she believes her best training has come from studying the work of her favorite artists.
She was able to view first hand works by Rembrandt, Rubens, Monet and many other old master paintings during her tenure at the J. Paul Getty Museum. At the Getty she managed the creation of the high-resolution digital archive of the museum’s art collection.
Carol’s work begins with one of her original photographs used as a reference. Using multiple layers of paint, pencil and pastel she builds her paintings slowly using color to create a painting that soon becomes evocative of her subject. While her art is fresh, her technique evolved out of a solid foundation of academic study and atelier experience.
In 2007 Carol won First Place in The Artist Magazine Contest for her painting “Please Save the Cheetah.”
Hernandez was among the artists selected by Laddie John Dill, internationally known artist/sculptor at the annual Topanga Canyon Gallery Juried Open Exhibit in January 2009 for her oil painting 'How To Make A Cheetah #1'.
More of her work can be seen at her website HorseArt.biz and ArtistCarol.com.
